Six months of exercise is as effective for treating depression as six months of medication.
I don’t know where I read that or if it’s accurate (so don’t take it as medical advice), but that sentence got me to go to the gym. Wanting to lose weight only motivated me to feel guilty for not working out, or not working out enough (that’s perfectionism by the way). But the idea that working out could be as helpful as antidepressant medication got me to start going to the gym, and going consistently. Even if I only stayed for twenty minutes and didn’t break a sweat, I still went.
Fight perfectionism by starting small. Done > perfect.
