Make Your To-Do List by Asking, “What Would Make Me Happy At the End of the Day?”

Does making a to-do list overwhelm you?

I changed my approach and for the first time I completed my entire to-do list in one weekend. Instead of listing everything that I needed to get done, I thought about what undone tasks were affecting my mood.

Internal dialogue: My dishes need to get done, but that won’t noticeably change my mood. However, the oversized boxes in my car’s backseat mildly weigh on me every time I see them. So I know that it would make me very happy at the end of the day for those boxes to be gone.

Don’t think of everything you think you could do or everything you think you should do. Wait until you notice the one thing that makes your shoulders tense every time you see it, or the thought that is low-key buzzing in the back of your mind. Do that thing, and bask in the joy.
