When I was diagnosed with ADHD, taking Adderall was my first intervention.
I am so grateful for it.
Before I started taking Adderall, my brain felt like a bricked-up house under a frozen, gloomy sky. After Adderall, my brain felt like a farmhouse with open windows, curtains flapping in the breeze and sunlight streaming in.
Is taking medication for ADHD something you should discuss with your doctor?
Intervention- Is that like a rehab or something or do I just tell my doctor I have adhd?
Great question Alexis!
Intervention was a confusing word for me to use because no, you do not have to go to rehab!
I’m not a doctor, so I can’t give you medical advice.
What worked for me: setting an appointment for ADHD screening with a psychologist in my town. He diagnosed me with ADHD and gave me a form that I took to my doctor.
My primary care physician is a nurse practitioner, and she is able to prescribe me Adderall. Adderall is a Schedule II drug in the US, which means it’s really monitored by the government and there are restrictions on how much you can get at a time. I have to meet with my nurse practitioner every so often so that she can make sure I am ok and using Adderall correctly.
If you have a regular doctor, ask them to test you for ADHD or help you set a referral to a mental health professional.
This website has some good information:
