The next time you leave your house, make it a goal to notice one new thing about your surroundings. It might be new to the town, or new to you.
Glancing left at a stoplight this morning, I noticed that an abandoned old building had open doors, with ladders and drop-cloths inside. Suddenly a building that I had driven by many times, one that was indistinguishable from its neighbors because it was just another old empty thing, felt like a new, energetic thing.
This five second encounter lifted my shoulders and cheeks. Change and energy can be contagious, even from construction on an old building. Now I’m going to be looking left on purpose at that stoplight, because I’m excited about whatever transformation is taking place there.
What new thing can you look for today?
